Strict land use regulations enforced for proposed 4-Lane Silchar-Jiribam project

way2barak, October 14: In alignment with the infrastructure development vision of the Government of Assam, the District Administration, Cachar, under the leadership of District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued a directive concerning land use regulations in connection with the proposed 4-Lane Silchar-Jiribam Project (Package No. 2) being implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

As per the official notification, land acquisition for the said project will encompass areas falling under the villages of Digligaon and Kharjanpunjee in Cachar District. The administration has made it explicitly clear that any new construction, agricultural, or developmental activity within the designated areas of the proposed 4-lane corridor must obtain prior permission from the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar.
Further, the order categorically states that any unauthorized construction or agricultural activity initiated after the issuance of this notice,whether temporary or permanent,will not be eligible for compensation at the time of land acquisition or project implementation. This regulation applies to both private and commercial structures falling within the proposed Right of Way (ROW).
Meanwhile, Cachar District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav emphasized that the directive has been issued to prevent encroachments, ensure transparency, and facilitate smooth execution of this critical national highway project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and accelerating economic development in southern Assam.
The order has been brought into immediate effect from the date of its publication. The District Administration has urged all concerned individuals and landowners to adhere strictly to the notification to avoid future disputes or ineligibility for compensation.
