Speculations ripe as 89 sacks full of spices found floating in a ‘Beel’

February 15: In a strange turn of events, around 89 sacks full of spices (Fennel Seed- Mouri/মৌরি & Cumin Seed- Jeera) were found floating in a ‘Beel’ (wetland) at Majil Beel in Nij Jaynagar- Kumarpara Gaon Panchayat in Machimpur (Arunachal) area of Cachar district om Friday. Suspense mounted in the area since local people spotted the sacks floating in water.

People gathered in large numbers near the Beel as the news spread on Friday morning. Meanwhile, police got information and also reached the spot. The sacks were then pulled out of water by the police. Police Super of Cachar, Manabendra Debroy informed that they have found 89 bags of spices but could not tell with certainty who did the act. He, however, said that the act may be related to some dacoit team.

It needs mention here that on Thursday, 3 dacoits were nabbed at Katlicherra and the sacks were discovered in water at Mashimpur on Friday. On Friday too, 3 members of a gang of dacoits were arrested from Machimpur. The 3 who were arrested are Dulal Ahmed (23), Hussain Ahmed (31) and Samshul Hussain (25). Police Super informed that they are interrogating these 3 regarding the sacks of Fennel Seed- Mouri/মৌরি & Cumin Seed- Jeera.
