Sourav Ganguly to donate rice worth Rs. 50 lakh to those affected by the 21-day lockdown

March 25: In a rarest of a rare gesture, former Indian skipper and present Chairman of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly has come forward in support of those affected by the 21-day lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, pledging to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh for the underprivileged.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) released a statement in this regard and thanked the local lad for his humanitarian gesture. “It is heartening to note that Sourav Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice has come forward to provide free rice worth Rs 50 lacs to the needy people who have been put in government schools for
safety and security.” The board also hoped that this initiative by the former India cricketer encourages others to contribute.

Sourav Ganguly also offered the indoor facility and the players dormitory of Eden Gardens to the West Bengal government. He said that the government can convert the stadium into temporary medical centers amidst the coronavirus pandemic. He said, “If the government asks us, we will certainly hand over the facility. Anything that is need of the hour, we will do it. There is absolutely no problem. ”.

In the video uploaded on his Twitter account. Sourav said, “These are very testing times in our lives but we will fight it. Listen to what every state government says… listen to what every health department says… listen to the directives of the central government. It’s important to stay at home… isolation is very very important.”

Total cases of the novel coronavirus disease in India rose 606 as India entered the second day of a three-week lockdown. The tally includes 10 people who have succumbed to the respiratory illness. Cases in India have more than tripled in the last five days.
