Silchar Municipality acts tough on COVID norms violators at Fatak Bazar, ₹22,000 fine collected
July 7: An amount of ₹22,000 was collected as fine by Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) on Tuesday till 3 PM for violating COVID norms. Disclosing this fact, Sumit Sattavan, Executive Officer of SMB during a routine press briefing on Tuesday said that in view of COVID-19 pandemic and and unruly crowd gathering in Fatak Bazar, New Market and Gopalganj area, Silchar Municipal Board has taken some drastic steps.
In an order issued by Sumit Sattawan, Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board on 6 July, it was stated that only permanent shops/ stalls will be allowed to sale goods at Fatak Bazar, New Market & Gopalganj area. No stalls at “Footpath” will be allowed to do business in these areas. In case of violation, fine of Rs.1000 will be charged on the spot and the sale items may also be confiscated by the authorised personnel engaged by the Silchar Municipal Board (SMB). It was further stated the order will come into force from immediate force.
Acting on this, the officials of SMB collected an amount of Rs.22,000 as fine for violating this rule in Fatak Bazar, New Market and Gopalganj area. Sumit Sattavan said that such eviction drive against illegal roadside vendors in the areas mentioned by SMB will continue in the coming days also. He said that this drive of SMB has reduced the crowd to a great extent.
