Silchar girl Sucharita on dialysis struggling for kidney transplant

July 9: At a time, when the entire globe is captivated by Coronavirus pandemic, there are some who are also struggling for a lease of life who are ill due to some other diseases. The problem becomes more aggravated for those who are financially weak as treatment of major diseases involves a huge lot of money. Such a sorrowful incident came to light recently at Silchar town in Assam.

The incident is of a young graduate Sucharita Bhattacharjee who stays with her mother & brother at Vivekananda Road in Silchar. Her father has already passed away. Her brother is working here in a private firm.  Somehow, the mother-daughter duo along with the paltry income of her brother was passing their days. Sucharita like any other girl of her age lived a somewhat happy life with her mother and also completed her graduation. But then, she faced some eye-related ailments. She visited an ophthalmologist, who recommended some clinical tests. Finally, it was revealed in one of the tests that both her kidneys have stopped functioning. Somehow, her mother managed to take her to Kolkata for better treatment where the doctors opined that she required an urgent kidney transplant.

It was indeed a bolt from the blue for the family. They came back to Silchar with a heavy heart. There were two main obstacles faced by the family. First, a huge amount of money was required for kidney transplant and secondly, they also required a donor. Since then, one and a half years have passed. She goes for dialysis at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) twice or thrice a week for dialysis. The 27-year-old Sucharita in an earnest appeal said, “I want to live, I have a lot of dreams. I don’t want to die. I would really be indebted if people come forward and contribute as they can so that I can get my kidney transplant done and thereby taste life once again.” A similar appeal was made by the old mother of Sucharita.

Recently, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy helped Sucharita to get some financial aid from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. However, that money was not enough for the kidney transplant. Recently, noted folk singer of Silchar, Bikramjit Baulia too came up with a Facebook Live session on 7 July for fund raising to support Sucharita Bhattacharjee. Due to his appeal through songs, many have come forward with generous contributions to support Sucharita.

“Every penny that people are contributing is helping me in accumulating the fund required for my kidney transplant. My blood group is B positive. I would also be thankful if someone can help me and manage me a kidney. With folded hands I appeal for my life,” said Sucharita. She has also provided her bank account details for this purpose and requested financial help. Here is the details of her bank account:
