Silchar girl creates mark in Forensic Science course
August 16: The long drawn popular TV serial CID has made Forensic Science a very popular concept now. The CID officers are shown to get immense help from Dr. Salunkhe, a forensic expert in solving the cases. Well, though it is hard to tell whether all the procedures shown in the TV soap really exists or not, yet the forensic aspect has caught the imagination of many. One such girl from Silchar has studied B.Sc in Forensic Science and has carved a niche for herself in the field.
Hrijuta Chakraborty, came out successfully in B.Sc Forensic Science and scored first class from Amity University, Noida. A student of Silchar Don Bosco School, Hrijuta from her young age was much engrossed by the forensic aspect shown in television and cinema. While interacting with way2barak, Hrijuta said, “Often I have seen in television soaps and news about police cracking complicated cases wherein forensic experts played a major role. But never it is shown the way how the forensic experts help in solving the mysteries. A curiosity took birth in me since then, which ultimately culminated in choosing forensic studies as my career.”
She added, “As this course in graduate studies is unable in this part of the country, so I had to shift my base to Delhi and got admitted in Amity Institute of Forensic Science, which has got a state-of-the-art laboratory. This is the most important aspect of Forensic Studies. You need a well equipped laboratory.” She added, “It’s always not like TV serials and cinema when forensic experts come in public and declare who is guilty. In real life situation, the forensic experts never says who is the criminal in a particular case. It rather gives its opinion in the court or to the investigating agencies.”
As regards the course, Hrijuta said, as crimes are of different nature, so do the multifarious specializations of the course of Forensic Studies. The subject has got many sub branches, such as, question document, ballistic, serology, toxicology, cyber forensics etc. She said, “As of now, I am interested in the aspect of ‘question document document’, wherein one has to deal with various hand written documents, bank cheque books, land documents and discern signature forgery etc.”
So what does Hrijuta Chakraborty plans for her future? She replied, “I will ofcourse now pursue my post graduation in Forensic Studies. For that, I will try my best to get through either in Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Delhi or Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar. It’s a tough competition there, but to achieve something big, one definitely needs to work hard.”
When asked what she would advice to those eager to study forensic science, Hrijuta said, “Look, there is a misconception that only students from science background can get into this subject. Studying at Amity, I found out that this broad subject is open for students from even arts and commerce. Those from the commerce background can do their graduation in “Forensic Accounting” and for those from Arts background can study for “Forensic Journalism” degree. It’s a vast field and one need to make the choice he/she wants to pursue. As of now, I think none from here has done B.Sc in Forensic Studies, the course which I pursued.”
Speaking about her inspiration in life, she at once named her parents to be the main force of motivation behind her. Her father Dipayan Chakraborty is the Secretary of Silchar Red Cross Society and Vice President of Cachar district committee of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her mother Rumli Bhattacharjee is a teacher at Don Bosco School, Silchar.
Before signing off her conversation with way2barak, Hrijuta Chakraborty said, “You do not have to wait for any superman to solve the matters related to any crime, offence or happenings. It’s the role played by people from the forensic background who do this. That is the most important driving factor and satisfaction which I get as a student of Forensic Science.”
Speaking on her success, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “She is a very bright student from her childhood. I am certain that she will do her further studies in forensic and make a mark in this aspect. I wish her all the best.”
