59th Teachers’ Day celebrated in Cachar district

Sept. 5: Following all COVID protocols, the 59th Teachers’ Day was celebrated coinciding with the birthday of Dr.Sarvopalli Radhakrishnan at Government Girls’ HS & MP School here on Saturday. The programme was jointly organised by the district administration, Cachar and Education Department. The function began with lighting of the traditional lamp and paying floral tribute at the portrait of Dr. Sarvopalli Radhakrishnan by Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli and other dignitaries.

At the very outset, Inspector of Schools, Cachar, Semina Yasmin Ara Rahman, in her address, said that the Government of India is always vigilant to prevent the spread of corona outbreak in the current situation. She hoped that this crisis situation would be overcome soon. Rahman said that Dr. Radhakrishnan established himself as an eminent philosopher, educator, calligrapher, orator and a human lover in the world due to his own initiative, perseverance, intellectual strength and radiant personality. “The present education system needs to be strengthened, then success will come automatically, ” she added.

Presiding over the function, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli spoke about the role of teachers in the wake of the corona pandemic which has changed life across the globe in many ways. She said the world is changing and teaching too will have to switch over to digital mode. “This change will be a learning curve for everyone,” she quipped. Highlighting the importance of teachers, Jalli said teachers have always changed the course of history and this time, too, they will be the guiding light to transform the society in a new form.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajib Roy and retired teacher Sanjib Deblashkar said teachers shape society and they are the builders of nation. Principal Punnadeep Chanda of Ramanuj Gupta Junior College, Ranadhir Das, Vivekananda Junior College, SR Teresa Martis, BS Holy Cross HS School and Mandira Das Gupta, Silchar Collegiate School were felicitated ceremonially for outstanding results of their respective institutions while rank holders in Higher Secondary final examination Binita Saha of Ramanuj Junior College who secured 3rd position in Commerce, Sushmita Roy of Vivekananda Junior College, who secured 8th position in Commerce and Adiyata Dutta of Ramanuj Junior College who secured 9th position in Commerce and rank holders in High School Leaving Certificate examination Anisha Roy of Holy Cross School who secured 8th position and Paarsa Tanseem Barbhuiya of Silchar Collegiate School who secured 10th position were accorded felicitation on the occasion.

District Elementary Education Officer, Sumitra Dev and Soma Shyam, Principal, Silchar Government Girls’ School were present. It may be mentioned that Assistant Teacher of Earle HS School, Saumyajit Chakraborty has been selected for the State Award 2020 and he is in Guwahati to receive the award.
