Seva Dal Young Brigade demonstrates against spurious liquor deaths
March 1: Angered by the death of around 150 tea garden labourers on consumption of spurious local liquor at Golaghat & Jorhat Districts of Assam, Seva Dal Young Brigade, District Congress Committee & Silchar Assembly Youth Congress led out a protest demonstration at Silchar. On Friday, they marched from from Indira Bhawan, Park Road to Khudiram Statue, Club Road.
Over there, the effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya were burnt. Slogans were raised against the ‘inefficient administration’ and ‘lapse of administration’ of the present state government.
Speaking during the occasion, District President of Sevadal Young Brigade Deepjoy Roy said, “Assam Government in general and the State Excise department failed miserably in discharging their duties. It is due to their apathy that spurious liquor is manufactured and sold largely in tea garden areas. The state government should owe moral responsibility. ”
Apart from Deepjoy Roy, the protest demonstration was also attended by Town President Deboja Sumonto, Assembly Youth Congress President Kushol Dutta, District Congress General Secretary Rajesh Deb, Abhijit Paul, Sirajul Ahmed among others.
