Set up proper cardiology, neurology at SMCH; complete drainage system of Silchar, suggests Tamal Banik to FM

June 30: Ahead of the first State Budget of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly, state Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Saturday released an e-mail ID and a WhatsApp number seeking advice from the public on the preparation of the budget for the financial year 2021-22. The e-mail id is assambudgetsuggestions@gmail.com and the WhatsApp number is 76368-79019. The State Budget for the financial year 2021-22 will be tabled in the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) on July 16, 2021.

It is in this connection that Congress leader and former Silchar Municipal Chairman and Congress leader Tamal Kanti Banik put forth certain suggestions for inclusion in the forthcoming state budget.

Tamal Kanti Banik suggested to improve the setup of the Cardiology and Neurological department of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) along with specialist doctors for 24×7. He further urged upon to make budget provisions for setting up pumping stations and other measures required and to complete the drainage system which causes water logging problems in Silchar. He suggested to urbanise the project of drinking water supply scheme, which falls under Urban Sewerage Board at New Silchar area.

Apart from these, Mr Banik also suggested the state Finance Minister adopt necessary provisions in the budget to convert Silchar Municipal Board into Corporation as the population and the area of the town has increased a lot. He also urged upon to make budget provision for an Electric incubator (chulli) for cremation of dead bodies at Silchar crematorium.

The other suggestions put forward by Tamal Kanti Banik are: sanction of funds and acceleration for the proposed project of flyover at Silchar, to make budget provision for increase of posts of both traffic department and Police department for the whole of Cachar district and especially for the Silchar constituency. Finally, he put forth the suggestion to urbanise the project of drinking water supply scheme, which falls under Urban Sewerage Board at New Silchar area.
