Seal Assam Tripura Border, restrict movement between Cachar & Karimganj: MLA Kamalakhya
May 9: With the rising tide of COVID-19 positive patients in Assam & Tripura, a fear- psychosis has gripped people in the neighbouring areas. Further, the Ajmer Bus episode in Cachar has become a source of worry for the people of Karimganj. It is in this backdrop that Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha, MLA North Karimganj wrote a letter to state Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday and demanded immediate sealing of Assam Tripura Border and restriction of movement between Cachar and Karimganj.
MLA Dey Purakayastha wrote, “The number of COVID-19 positive cases has risen above a hundred in Tripura. But the influx of people from Tripura to Assam is continuing in a large number through the Churaibari border of Karimganj district. I request you to completely seal the border at Churaibari immediately to avoid from worsening the corona pandemic situation in Karimganj district.”
As an aftermath of the bus incident, there has been a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the district of Cachar. Expressing his concern, Kamalakhya wrote, “Furthermore. as Cachar district is witnessing a jump of COVID-I9 positive cases from the last couple of days, I urge you to restrict the general movement of people from Cachar to Karimganj apart from medical and other emergency engagement.”
