‘Revised NRC’ is under the jurisdiction of Supreme Court, asserts Himanta Biswa Sarma
April 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its Election Manifesto in Assam ahead of the Assembly Election, 2021 assured the people of “Corrected NRC.” However, during an interview with The Lallantop, BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma while replying to a query as regards ‘Revised NRC’ said, “The revised National Register of Citizens (NRC) is within the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. Assam government has appealed to the Supreme Court to allow to do 20 percent revision of NRC in the bordering areas of the state and 10 percent revision in other parts of the state. This is because we have seen some anomalies there. Now, if the Supreme court allows to do revision, we will do it, otherwise we will move ahead with the present NRC.”
A must watch interview to understand the man and politician @himantabiswa by @saurabhtop for @TheLallantop https://t.co/4ebOZIoy80 #HimantaBiswaSarma #AssamAssemblyPolls

Taking a dig at the BJP, Congress leadership in Barak Valley regarded this as a misnomer. The Congress said, on one hand, the BJP in its Election Manifesto for Assam assured the people of a “Corrected NRC” and on the otherhand, BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma speaks of “Revised NRC” and that too subject to the approval of the Supreme Court or else they will proceed with the existing NRC.
