More than 400 Congress workers from Sonai leaves party and joins AIUDF in presence of local MLA

April 13: It’s all not well for the Congress party. After the defeat of Congress in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections, APCC President Bhupen Bora said that post-Eid festival, the Congress will start an expedition in 15 constituencies of the state, which were under the grip of AIUDF. However, prior to that, large numbers of Congress workers left the party and joined AIUDF on Thursday.

When infighting among the ranks and profile of Silchar District Congress Congress Committee has exposed the hollowness of the party, a large group of Congress workers decided to leave the party and join AIUDF. More than 400 Congress workers including its Mandal, GP, AP representatives, Youth Congress members left the party and joined its present rival AIUDF in a programme organised at Sildubi in presence of Sonai MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya (Shaju).

All those who joined AIUDF on Thursday were welcomed with a ‘gamosha’ by MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, who also happens to be the General Secretary of the party. Speaking during the occasion, MLA Barbhuiya said that  the Congress at present is disillusioned and has got no ideology at all. Hence, being disillusioned, more than 400 Congress workers from various levels have joined the AIUDF.

“The state Congress at present has become like a club characterised by infighting. The party at present is divided into four to five groups and has got no common agenda. At Silchar too, lobbies in favour of MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and against has exposed the weakness of the party. Being frustrated, Hindus, Muslims, Manipuris, all are parting ways with the Congress and joining AIUDF.”
