New Covid guidelines in Assam to be announced by DGP & Chief Secretary at 11 AM on 12 May
May 11: The first cabinet meeting under the Chief Ministership of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took place in Guwahati on Tuesday evening. At the end of the meeting, the press was briefed about the decisions of the Cabinet meeting by Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika- Minister Water Resources, Information & Public Relations, Parliamentary Affairs along with Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Jayanta Mallah Baruah. Henceforth, they will address the press after every cabinet meeting.
It was further informed that a threadbare discussion on the Covid situation was discussed in the Cabinet meeting. These decisions will be informed in a press meet at 11 AM on 12 May by the Chief Secretary of the state and Director General of Police. The new Covid guidelines, which they will announce on 12 May, will come into effect from 13 May. In case restrictions have to continue for more than a fortnight, Govt will consider financial relief package for weaker sections.
The Cabinet discussed in details the prevailing COVID situation in the state. Each minister will be appointed to oversee the COVID 19 situation in two or more districts. They will undertake visit to their respective districts and hold meeting with DC, Joint Directors of Health and other senior officers to submit the report to Chief Minister and Health Minister within three days of their visit.
However, earlier during the day, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, said a lockdown will not be imposed in the state but strict restrictions will be enforced.
Here are the important decisions taken in the 1st cabinet meeting of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma:
- Cabinet Meeting to be held in every Wednesday at 11 AM to 1 PM
- A committee formed under the Chairmanship of Finance Minister Ajanta Neog to devise ways and means to provide 1 lakh jobs to the youths. The committee to submit report within 1 month.
- Discussion was also held as regards waiving of micro finance loans. A committee was formed in this regard under the Chairmanship of Minister Ashok Singhal.
