Rail ticket prices go up from July 1

way2barak June 25: Indian Railways will implement a fare hike for passenger trains starting July 1, 2025, the first since the COVID-19 pandemic, while keeping suburban and monthly season ticket rates unchanged. Additionally, Tatkal ticket bookings will require Aadhaar authentication, with OTP verification becoming mandatory from July 15 to curb misuse and improve transparency.

The revised rates will mainly affect long-distance travellers, while daily and short-distance commuters will see no major changes.

Travelled by local trains or hold a Monthly Season Ticket (MST) fare remains the same.

Also, travelling in ordinary second class for a distance up to 500 km, there will be no increase. But above 500 km, half a paise per km will be increased. In non AC mail or express train, it will be one paise per km. Two paise per km will be increased in case of AC class in all trains.
