Committee formed for treatment of Black Fungus patient from SMCH at GMCH, patient stable
June 12: A 7-member committee has been constituted for management of treatment of the patient with Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) who was referred from Silchar Medical College & Hosiptal (SMCH) to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). This was notified by Dr Achyut Ch Baishya, Principal-cum-Superintendent of GMCH.
Dr BK Baishya, Prof & HOD, Neurology will be the Chairman of this committee, whereas,Dr Basanta Hazarika, Prof of Pulmonary Medicine is the Member Secretary. The 5 other committee members are Dr Bharati Gogoi, Prof & HOD, Ophthalmology, Dr Kabita Kalita, Prof & HOD, Plastic Surgery, Dr Lahari Saikia, Prof & HOD, Microbiology, Dr Kalpana Sarma, Prof & HOD, ENT and Dr Anuradha Deori, Professor of Medicine.
Informing this, Dr Bhaskar Gupta Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday said, “On last Saturday, a patient of Black Fungus was referred from SMCH to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). The patient is being treated by a 7-member committee constituted for this purpose. Even today, I had a talk with the patient over telephone and he is stable at present. The committee has recommended for conservative treatment only and there is no need for survival intervention at this moment.
