Pradip Dutta Roy files FIR against Srinkhal Chaliha, alleges life threat & hate comments against Bengalis

Oct. 21: The issue of defacing an hoarding written in Assamese language with black ink is taking new turns almost everyday. Two FIR’s were lodged against Pradip Dutta Roy, Chief Convenor of Barak Democratic Front (BDF) in this connection at Haigaon & Dispur Police Stations in Guwahati and Mr Dutta Roy has been served summons to appear in person on 25 October. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Pradip Dutta Roy too has lodged FIR against Srinkhal Chaliha of Bir Lachit Sena at Silchar Sadar Police Station.

In the said FIR, Mr Dutta Roy stated, “That I wish to draw your kind attention to a video published in the Assamese News Channel named “NewzNow” whereby the accused person has been found uttering statements against me which are false, baseless and malafide in nature….This is just an attempt of the accused person to create turmoil and disruption in the peaceful being of the society and the brethren communities of Assamese and Bengali.”

He further stated that, “The accused, in the same video, has concocted baseless allegations against me and has used abusive and anti-social language in such a manner which has enraged the entire Assamese community against me and has intimated them to post hate comments against me…. The accused has not only defamed me but also created a situation of unrest and has influenced the mass to spread hatred towards the Bengali community by using the public platform of Facebook.”

Pradip Dutta Roy in his FIR urged upon the OC of Sadar Police Station, Silchar to take “necessary action against the accused under Sections 153(A), 500, 505, 506 of IPC.”

Later while speaking to newsmen, Mr Dutta Roy said, “It’s strange when I filed FIR against Dayananda Burhagohain and Srinkhal Chaliha some times ago, the cases were transferred by Silchar Police Station to either Sivasagar, Tinsukia or Guwahati. But quite reverse, when Srinkhal Chaliha filed suit against me, I was summoned to appear in Guwahati on 25 October. So why this disparity? Constantly I am been given life threatening by Chaliha and other such groups. So my life is at risk. Will Chief Minister take responsibility of my security?”  He further asked, “Is there different set of laws for filing cases by Assamese and Bengali’s in Assam?”
