Protest mounts in Silchar as against the ‘mysterious’ death of journalist Parag Bhuyan
Nov. 14: The mysterious death of senior Assam journalist Parag Bhuyan has led to an atmosphere of protest by the scribes throughout the state. On Saturday, journalists of Barak Valley also organised a protest demonstration at the pedestal of the statue of Khudiram displaying posters seeking justice. Citizens from various walks of life also took part in this protest demonstration at the call of Barak Valley Electronic Media Association, thereby expressing solidarity to the cause.
Parag Bhuyan was a senior reporter of the Pratidin Time group and a local reporter for the Axomiya Khabar, an Assamese daily. He was also the vice president of the Tinsukia Press club. The 53-year-old scribe was killed in a suspected hit-and-run case on Wednesday night near his residence at Kakopathar in Tinsukia.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday has ordered a CID probe into the death case of journalist Parag Bhuyan. Taking to its tweeter handle, the Chief Minister office wrote, ““Taking note of various allegations regarding the death of senior journalist Parag Bhuyan, CM Shri @sarbanandsonowal has directed a CID inquiry into the matter. @AssamCid.” The CID probe order comes after the family members of the deceased and various scribes and associations raised severe doubt on the death of Parag Bhuyan.
