Procession of death: 7 more deaths in last 24 hours in SMCH & Green Heals

August 18: The coronavirus pandemic has now led to a procession of death also in Barak Valley. Though in terms of percentage, this may be very nominal or may be just a number, but for the family members of the deceased, each death means everything for them. Since the last few days, the valley witnessed many deaths, although all of them were not certified as COVID-19 deaths. However, this also cannot be denied that all of them were infected with coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 7 more deaths, out of which, 5 died in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and 2 at Green Heals Hospital.

In the last 24 hours, 5 persons died at SMCH. All of them were admitted in the ICU. Their reports were sent to the State Death Audit Board. This was confirmed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. The deceased were identified as:

  1. Rajkumar Das Purkayastha (86) from Shib Bari Road, Tarapur was infected with COVID-19 and was admitted at SMCH at 7.45 AM on 17 August. He died on the same at 12.05.
  2. Subhas Chandra Acharjee (75) from Ambicapatty was admitted in SMCH at 9.45 AM on 17 August. He breathed his last at 8.38 PM on 18 August. He is the proprietor of Ratnashree Jewellers at Shillongpatty, Silchar. His death was confirmed by the Death Audit Board as COVID-19 Death on Tuesday night.
  3. Pradip Kumar Singh (55) from Bahadurpur in Cachar was also admitted inSMCH at 10 AM on 13 August, 2020. He, however, died at 2 PM on 18 August. His death was also confirmed by the Death Audit Board as COVID-19 Death on Tuesday night.
  4. Dharani Mohan Paul (59) from Kanakpur got admitted in SMCH at 10.45 AM on 17 August. But he breathed his last at 3.40 PM on 18 August.
  5. Fuljan Bibi (52) from Baliya in Karimganj was admitted at 10 PM on 16 August. He died at 8.30 PM on 17 August.

Further, Green Heals Hospital, the 1st private hospital in Barak Valley started a COVID ward this week. On Tuesday, 2 patients of coronavirus died in Green Heals Hospital. Their reports were also sent to death audit board. They were identified as:

  1. Saif Uddin (39) from Kanaishail in Karimganj got admitted at Green heals with with Covid Pneumonia, but he died on Tuesday. His death was also confirmed by the Death Audit Board as COVID-19 Death on Tuesday night.
  2. Abdul Hamid (66) also from Kanaishail in Karimganj was the 2nd man to expire during the day. He, however, had other co-morbidities.
