Police verification for jobs, passport, etc. must be completed within 7 days: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Contingency amount of Rs 2.5 lakh to each Police Station: CM Assam

July 5: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma held a conference with Officer-In-Charge (OCs) of all police stations in Assam on ‘Redefining policing standards in Assam’ on Monday. The Chief Minister made several important announcements and issued advisories during the meeting. In the conference, CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma urged OCs to perform their duties with diligence. He advised police personnel to adopt healthy lifestyle and deliver people friendly services. Further, the Chief Minister announced that he will review the progress of Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of police stations after six months.

The key announcement made by the Chief Minister in this connection are:

  • Transfer of OCs in every two years
  • Car/bike to each Police Station in three months
  • `Source’ fund to OCs to gather intelligence
  • Contingency amount of Rs 2.5 lakh to each Police Station
  • 3 computers & 1 generator in each Police Station
  • Quarters for Officer In-charges & Sub Inspectors in Police Stations with available land
  • Police report on accident death to be delivered at victim’s house within 24 hours
  • Post-mortem report to accident victim’s kin within 15 days.

Apart from these, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced certain advisories for the OCs of the Police Stations in Assam:

  • Chargesheet against pending cases within six months
  • Quick chargesheet against rape, murder, arms cases, etc. within six months
  • Quick disposal of all verification cases
  • Police verification for jobs, passport, etc. must be completed within 7 days
  • IG, CID will be asked to sign MoU with other Forensic labs across the country for quick closure of cases
  • Cow smuggling should not be allowed in any area
  • Fortnightly health checkup of OCs and constables in nearest health facility
