Green Corridor: Patient successfully air lifted from Silchar to Chennai on Tuesday

June 29: A 62-year-old Covid-19 positive patient from Silchar was successfully airlifted to a Chennai hospital on Tuesday. Infact, a Green corridor was arranged to take the patient identified as Ashok Chandra Das from Jeevan Jyoti Institute of Medical Sciences (JJIMS), Silchar on Monday. Though the patient reached Silchar Airport on Monday morning, but due to poor weather condition, the air ambulance could not take off. After around 2 hours wait, the patient was brought back to JJIMS, Silchar. However, as soon as the patient was discharged on Monday morning, another patient was admitted and as such there were no vacant bed in ICU of JJIMS. The patient was then admitted at Green Heals Pvt Hospital.

On Tuesday, the patient party again appealed to the district administration for making provision for Green Corridor on Tuesday, so that the patient can be taken to Silchar Airport, from where he would fly to Chennai in an air ambulance. The district administration and Cachar Police again facilitated Green corridor on Tuesday and the patient was taken in an ambulance to Silchar Airport. The air ambulance successfully took off with 62-year-old Ashok Chandra Das and reached Chennai in the afternoon. He was then admitted at Apollo Hospital.

Taking to its twitter handle, Silchar Airport wrote, “#AAI #SilcharAirport extended all necessary support & assistance for airlifting a patient to Chennai International Airport on 29.06.21. A #GreenCorridor was facilitated by District Administration Cachar & Cachar Police to transport the patient from JJIMS-Jeevan Jyoti Institute of Medical Sciences to the Airport.”

As per family sources, it was learnt that Ashok Chandra Das was a patient of kidney transplant. He was, however, leading a normal life since the transplant in 1991. But on 26 June after being detected as Covid-19 positive, he was admitted at JJIMS, Silchar. He was diagnosed as suffering from Covid-19 pneumonia. He was also suffering from comorbidities. His family members were keen to shift him to Chennai for advanced treatment. Finally, after a failed attempt on Monday, they were successful in taking him to Chennai on Tuesday.
