PM remembers Pandit Bhimsen Joshi on his 100th birth anniversary

Feb. 4: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has remembered Pandit Bhimsen Joshi on his 100th birth anniversary. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said; “On his 100th birth anniversary, remembering the versatile Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Ji. Through his works, he made landmark contributions towards popularising Indian music and culture. He also brought our nation closer through his renditions.”

Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi, also known by the honorific prefix Pandit, was one of the greatest Indian vocalists from Karnataka, in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is known for the khayal form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 2008.

On his 100th birth anniversary, remembering the versatile Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Ji. Through his works, he made landmark contributions towards popularising Indian music and culture. He also brought our nation closer through his renditions.
