Pijush Hazarika inspects erosion caused by Kushiara river along Indo-Bangla border in Karimganj
July 21: Minister of Water Resources, Pijush Hazarika came to Silchar on Wednesday. As per directions of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Hazarika inspected the dysfunctional sluice gates and damaged dykes. He also inspected various dykes in Hailakandi district. Later on, at night, he went to Karimganj on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, Minister Pijush Hazarika visited the Ratanpur- Bariband areas of South Karimganj today adjoining the Longai river to inspect the status of road constructed by PWD which was damaged by the floods caused by the river.
He also inspected the erosion caused by Kushiara river along Indo-Bangla border in Karimganj district at Bisarjan Ghat & held a discussion with the officials of Water Resource Department regarding permanent measures to prevent further erosion and also considered construction of a guard wall when required.
Minister Pijush Hazarika then visited the erosion of the dyke created by the Langai river in the Tapadarpara area of Patharkandi constituency and discussed with the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department Borsingh Rangpi and other officers about the prevention of the erosion.
Hazarika also inaugurated the Hathikhira Community Health Centre at Patharkandi Constituency under Karimganj District today. He dedicated this centre to the health and well-being of the local populace.
Earlier during the day, he went at the memorial of the martyrs of the Bengali language movement at Karimganj and offered floral tribute at the martyrs column there. Later on, sharing information about this, Minister Pijush Hazarika in a tweet wrote, “I paid homage to the martyrs of the Bengali language movement at the memorial of the martyrs in Karimganj District today. I was accompanied by MLAs Shri Krishnendu Paul and Shri Bijoy Malakar and other dignitaries.”
MLAs Krishnanendu Paul and Bijoy Malakar, Ex MLA Monilal Gowala, the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj District, Karimganj District BJP President Subrata Bhattacharya and officials of the district administration were present during the visit of the minister in the district.
