Barak Valley registers 102 Covid +ve cases on Monday, 222 discharged & 4 deaths at SMCH

There are 994 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 5: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. However, on Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased again. A total of 102 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 222 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 994 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 77 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 56 positive cases   (It was 41 on Sunday)
  • Karimganj: 41 positive cases (It was 31 on Sunday)
  • Hailakandi: 05 positive cases (It was 05 on Sunday)

A total of 56 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 4,983 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 40 persons were found positive, whereas 16 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,899, whereas during this phase, 17,272 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 457. Also, 100 patients were discharged during the day.  Though the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam has considerably decreased, yet incidents of death of Covid positive patients are still reported from the three districts of Southern Assam. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 4 July to 5 PM on 5 July) witnessed demise of 04 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the four deceased, two of them are from Cachar, one from Hailakandi and another one from Karimganj.

The deceased were identified as M Haloi (35) from Patherkandi in Karimganj district, Gopa Dam (61) from Das Colony in Silchar, Hirendra Singha (75) from Kolarpar in Hailakandi district and Misbahuddin Choudhury (72) from Kazidohore Part 3 in Cachar district was admitted at SMCH on 30 June. He died at 8.45 AM on 5 July.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 5 July, there were 115 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 53 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 62 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 13 patients were put under ventilator support and 77 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 14 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 19 of them were discharged.

 Hailakandi registered 05 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 05 positive cases detected on Monday, 04 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 99 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,631 RAT tests and 299 RT-PCR tests were done. 13 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,547 (both 1st & 2nd wave).  As of now, a total of 4,026 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 05 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday. Till date 47 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 41 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The district has currently 438 active COVID-19 cases, while 109 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday. 3,177 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 31 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Sunday.

On Monday, out of 1,16,542 tests, 2,640 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,19,834. The positivity rate in the state is 2.27 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 197 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 31 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,683. The recovery rate is 94.56 percent. On Monday, 2,521 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,91,561 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.  At present, there are 22,243 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 31 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 31 deceased, 05 are from Dibrugarh; 04 from Golaghat; 03 each from Jorhat & Sonitpur; 02 each from Cachar, Dhubri, Hailakandi & Hojai; 01 each from Charaideo, Chirang, Karimganj, Kokhrajhar, Morigaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,683.
