Patanjali proposes to include Coronil in Covid kit; IMA criticises move & calls it ‘mixopathy’
June 6: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Yoga Guru Ramdev have been locked in a war of words over the effectiveness of modern medicines in Covid-19 treatment. Amidst this, Patanjali has proposed to include Coronil tablets in the Covid-19 kit prepared by the Uttarakhand government. Reacting to this, IMA Uttarakhand Secretary Dr Ajay Khanna said, “Addition of Coronil in the kit with allopathy drugs will amount to Mixopathy and such procedure is barred as per Section 34 of the National Medical Commission.”
Dr Ajay Khanna of IMA Uttarakhand said, “Coronil is recognised as a food supplement by Ayush Ministry and it is not a drug or medicine as claimed by Baba Ramdev.” He even wrote to the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand objecting the proposal of Patanjali to include Coronil tablets in Covid-19 kit of the state.
Coronil, which is touted to boost immunity against Covid-19 was launched in February at an event where Union Health Minister Dr Harsha Vardhan and also Cabinet Minister Nitin Gadkari were present.
