Panic spread as leopard enters girls’ hostel

Nov. 30: In a scary incident, panic spread among the residents of Hengerabari area in Guwahati after an adult Leopard entered a girls’ hostel on Monday morning. Mousumi Bora who owns the hostel, located in Hengerabari, said she had mistaken the leopard that was trapped under a sofa for a piece of cloth and was about to pick it up when she realised it was a wild animal. Mousumi Bora along with the 15 inmates of the hostel locked themselves inside and immediately informed the Forest Department.

After a lot of effort and time, the forest officials were able to tranquilize the animal, put it in a cage and shift it to the Assam State Zoo.  Taking to his twitter handle, Minister of Fishery, Excise, Environment & Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya wrote, “Another successful operation today as we safely rescued an Indian leopard today which took shelter in a hostel in Hengrabari, Guwahati. The success can be attributed to the timely intervention of our Assam State Zoo, Wildlife Division & Territorial Division staff & police team.”
