One-Day National Seminar on Dr. Ambedkar’s Vision Successfully Held at Assam University

Way2barak, March 22 : A one-day national seminar titled “Unveiling the Visionary: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Perspective on Nation and Nationalism” was organized by the Dr. Ambedkar Chair, Assam University, Silchar in an online mode via Google Meet. The seminar, held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, brought together scholars and students from various academic disciplines to discuss Dr. Ambedkar’s views on nationhood and nationalism.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Maumita Nath, Assistant Professor, Dr. Ambedkar Chair, Assam University, Silchar, who also served as the program coordinator. Prof. Debotosh Chakraborty, Chair Professor (i/c), Dr. Ambedkar Chair, Assam University, Silchar, provided the concept note, outlining the objectives and significance of the seminar.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Jyotiraj Pathak, HOD, Political Science, Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari, Assam, who explored Dr. Ambedkar’s thoughts on nationalism and social justice. The invited speakers included Sri Sudhir Hilsayan, Editor, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi, who spoke on “Nationhood and Social Justice: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Vision for an Inclusive India,” and Prof. Saugata Kumar Nath, HOD, English, Assam University, Silchar, who discussed “Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Perspective on Nationalism.”
The seminar featured two technical sessions chaired by Prof. Debotosh Chakraborty (Technical Session I) and Prof. Suparna Roy, HOD, History, Assam University, Silchar (Technical Session II). A total of 18 research papers were presented by participants, including 7 faculty members, 8 Ph.D. scholars, 2 postgraduate students, and 1 undergraduate student.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bishal Das, Ph.D. scholar. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Assam University and Chief Patron of the Seminar, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, extended his appreciation to the Dr. Ambedkar Chair, the speakers, and all participants for their contributions, emphasizing the importance of such discussions in understanding Dr. Ambedkar’s vision. Although he was unable to join the event due to travel commitments, he acknowledged its success.
The seminar was well received for its thought-provoking discussions and valuable academic contributions, reinforcing Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy in shaping India’s national identity and social justice framework.
