Non-bailable offences to be slapped for flouting quarantine norms & unruly behaviour: Himanta

June 4: There are multiple reports of people blatantly flouting quarantine norms and exhibiting unruly behaviour in institutional quarantine facilities. Such unruly attitude has become a challenge for the government in its attempt to contain the further spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Assam Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma gave a strict warning for all such violators.

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to Biswanath Chariali on Thursday, the minister said that, “We will register non-bailable cases against those violating quarantine norms. It will be considered as an attempt to murder.” He also held a review meeting with officials of Health, Police & district administration at Biswanath Chariali to strengthen the capabilities of the district in dealing with the pandemic.
