New Milestone: India administers atleast 1 vaccine dose to 50% of its adult population
India is only behind China in terms of number of doses administered so far
Aug 27: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday informed that 50 percent of India’s eligible population has received at least the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine. Terming this as an ‘unprecedented milestone’, the Health Minister tweeted, “India achieves unprecedented milestone! 50% of the eligible population inoculated with the first dose of #COVID19 vaccine.”
The cumulative number of vaccination coverage crossed 61 crore landmark milestone on Thursday, with nearly 80 lakh vaccine doses (79,48,439) being administered in the last 24 hours. A little over seven months since the day India launched its Covid-19 vaccination drive on January 16, the mass inoculation programme is closing in on a major milestone. India is only behind China in terms of the number of doses administered so far, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins.
