November 21: MP Silchar, Dr. Rajdeep Roy while speaking during ‘Matters of Urgent Public Importance’ in the Lok Sabha raised the issue of persecution of religious minority in Bangladesh. He drew attention of the Speaker OM Birla to this issue and said, “Our neighbouring state is Bangladesh with which we have very good diplomatic relations. However, the issue of persecution of the minorities is rampant over there.”
Dr. Roy then said, “The atrocities persecuted upon the Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians in Bangladesh appear in newspaper headlines almost everyday. A few days a young lawyer and an activist was beaten ruthlessly when he was under detention. This incident was reported in a massive way in social media sites. During the last Durga Puja and Navaratri, the minorities were tortured. We have got information.that in many places of Bangladesh, people had to stop performing puja.”
He then urged upon the Speaker and the government to take this issue on a serious note. He quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi who often mentions about ‘Indian diaspora’ and requested to initiate action in this matter.
