Money snatching in Silchar: Cachar Police releases photo, seeks information on bike borne miscreants

July 3: Two instances of snatching money on Friday in broad daylight have given rise to panic among the people of Silchar. A staff of Radhamadhab College was looted Rs 2 lakh at Sonai Road and Rs 3 lakh was snatched away from an SSB Jawan at Malugram. The modus operandi of both the incidents are same. Bike borne miscreants keep an eye on the victims as they withdraw cash from banks. They then follow the victims and snatch away the money. In both these two incidents, FIR were lodged on Friday itself.

Cachar Police has started its investigation into these snatching incidents. Police teams have visited the spots where the snatching cases took place. In the case of Radhamadhab Collge, Rs 2 lakh was withdrawn by its staff Hari Prasad Kurmi from State Bank of India, New Silchar Branch. However, when he was on his way back to the college on his bicycle, bike borne miscreants snatched the bag containing the cash and fled away. The victim narrated that the bike rider was wearing a full mask helmet whereas the pillion rider who snatched  the bag had a cap on his head, which fell down on the road when he was snatching the bag. The incident occurred at around 1.30 PM.

In another incident, an SSB Jawan, Shivaji Ram posted in Rangia who was on leave came to his home at Malugram, Silchar. He went on a motorcycle to State Bank of India, Main branch at Park Road. 52-year-old Shivaji Ram withdrew Rs 3 lakh and came back riding his two-wheeler. The moment he got down from his bike near his home at the diversion in Malugram, two bike-borne miscreants snatched away the bag containing cash and fled away. The incident occurred at around 11.30 AM. A similar description of the miscreants were given by the victim. The rider was wearing a full mask helmet and the pillion rider was without a helmet but wore a face mask.

Based on the inputs, Cachar Police has started a through investigation. Police has even managed a CCTV footage of the bike borne miscreants. Releasing the picture of the suspected miscreants in social media, Cachar Police has sought concrete information about them from the public. For providing information, cash reward will also be given by the Police and the identity of the informer would also be kept secret. Apparently, it seems that the description of the miscreants given by both the victims matches with the photo released by Cachar Police.

On Saturday, Cachar Police tweeted, “Cachar Police announces cash reward for anyone giving concrete information about the suspected miscreants on bike as seen in the photo. They are wanted in snatching/looting cases in Silchar PS area. Please inform on number- 9706603088/ 8638622411. Your identity will be kept secret.”
