Minister Pijush Hazarika lays foundation stone for river protection in Cachar, visits erosion site of Barak

Feb 9 : Minister for water Resources and Information and Public Relations, Pijush Hazarika announced that Rs 100 crore would be provided in the next four years for the reconstruction and repair of river dyke at flood-prone Lakhipur assembly constituency.

Minister Pijush Hazarika who is on a two-day visit to Barak Valley made this statement while laying the foundation stone of Barak river protection work in Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar district on Wednesday.Minister Hazarika said Rs 20 to 25 crore will be allocated every year for flood control in Lakhipur constituency in the next four years.

Minister Hazarika further stated that in the current financial year, Rs 1,500 crore will be spent on flood relief in 70 assembly constituencies in the state. The Minister said that the system of procurement of paddy produced by the farmers of the state at higher prices through FCI would improve the financial condition of the farmers of the state.
Minister Hazarika stated that government led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is leaving no stone unturned towards fulfilling its promises.

The Minister also mentioned in details of the assistance scheme for micro borrowers. He said the government was determined to accelerate the pace of development in the state and was working towards setting a daily milk production target of one lac litres. The minister directed Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli, who was present at the meeting, to inspect the projects during implementation.

In the meeting at Rupaibali, MLA  Lakhipur Kaushik Rai said that another project worth of Rs 3 crore 30 lakh would be sanctioned in Hatirhar soon. In both the meetings, MLA Kaushik Rai affirmed that a bridge would be built over the river Barak at Shilghat. He also informed that the process of approval for the construction of proposed bridge is in progress.

In the meeting at Rupaibali, MLA Rai further informed that the Dyke cum Road at Rupaibali will be constructed at a cost of 7cr,63lacs ,which will be implemented by Public works Department. Rathindra Vijay Chakraborty, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, in his welcome address at the Rupaibali meeting, said that the 4.45 km long embankment road will be kept 6 meters wide breadth. It will be paved with sand gravel along with soil filling work.

The meeting was held at Sri Lily English High School on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of a project worth of rupees 3cr, 49 lakh 64 thousand to prevent erosion of Barak river in Singerband. In his welcome address, Pranab Kumar Turung, Additional Chief Engineer, Water Resources Department, said that Geotech protection would be provided at the 426-meter breach site.

Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli, who presided over the two meetings, said that the people of Lakhipur civil subdivision would be greatly benefited if the two projects were implemented. Both the meetings were attended by Manipuri Development Council chairperson Rina Singh and district BJP president Bimalendu Roy. Earlier, Minister Hazarika had visited the erosion site of Barak River at North Krishnapur. MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya was also accompanied Minister Hazarika during the inspection.
