Massive vaccination drive of pigs in Hailakandi; No case of death due to classical swine fever
April 25: The district animal husbandry and veterinary authority in Hailakandi is on a massive drive to vaccinate pigs against classical swine fever. District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, RA Laskar disclosed that 167 pigs have been vaccinated to protect them from classical swine fever at places such as Mohonpur, Algapur, Katlicherra, Chandipur and Balikandi and in the past few days.
Laskar said the department has set a target of vaccinating 700 pigs in the next couple of days. He said though there has been cases of death of pigs due to classical swine fever in some districts of the state, there is not a single case in the district so far.
1,964 pigs have died due to swine fever in six districts of the State. Selling of pigs and pork meat has been banned in the state with immediate effect from Saturday. Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Atul Bora said that a five-member team of veterinarians would be sent to the affected districts and proper steps would be taken to dispose of the carcass to prevent infection.
