Landslide Triggers Traffic Disruption In Guwahati
way2barak, July 20: A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall damaged at least six parked two-wheelers and blocked a stretch of road in Guwahati’s Kharghuli area on Sunday morning after the guard wall of a nearby homestay collapsed and slid downhill with the debris.
No casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred around 10 am, although several vehicles were buried under the debris.
Officials from the Disaster Management authorities reached the site soon after the landslide and began assessing the situation.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and restore traffic movement along the affected stretch.
According to local residents, the landslide damaged six two-wheelers parked along the roadside, including one motorcycle and five scooters.
“Several private vehicles have been damaged and buried under the debris. If this had happened on a regular working day, someone could have lost their life because people frequently park their vehicles here while visiting nearby markets,” a local resident said.
