IPL 2020: Rajasthan Royals to play 2 matches at Barsapara in Guwahati: Himanta
February 14: It’s indeed going to be a feast for the cricket lovers of Assam. The Rajasthan Royals are going to play two Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in its 2020 edition at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. This was tweeted by State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Dr. Sarma wrote, “It is a moment of joy for us as @rajasthanroyals will play 2 matches in #IPL’s next season in #Guwahati. I appreciate Sri @JayShah for this great initiative for the people of #NorthEastIndia. May the spirit of sports keep us united forever.”
As per reports, the green signal to host two IPL matches in Guwahati was taken in a meeting held between IMG-Reliance (IMG-R), the parent body of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals and Assam Cricket Association (ACA). Representatives from the IMG-R & Rajasthan Royals visited ACA Stadium for inspection on 7 February.

Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by three petitioners at the Jaipur bench of Rajasthan High Court, claiming that shifting of matches outside Jaipur “would be disrespectful to the state.”
However, the IPL Governing Council has not announced the starting date of IPL Match in 2020. But IPL Governing Council (IGC) meeting is soon to take the final decision on the IPL 2020 dates and venue. If there are no further hurdles, then for the first time, IPL Match will be played in the northeast region of the country since the league’s inception back in 2008.
