Invited lecture on Building career as a Mobile Journalist held Women’s College Silchar  

way2barak, March 31: Engaging the students to grasp the concept of “MOJO” Mobile Journalism and to build their career as a mobile journalist, the Department of mass communication, Women’s College Silchar organised a special invited lecture on Mobile Journalism on March 28, 2025.

The event was aimed to enlighten the students on the world of mobile journalism, it’s uses, advantages and limitations. Young journalist of Barak Valley Akhi Das, who is working as correspondent at News 18 channel and also as a correspondent at Akashwani Guwahati was the invited speaker at the event.

Addressing the gathering of journalism students from the host college as well as from Radha Madhab College Silchar, Ms. Das emphasized her speech with the different aspects of mobile journalism, it’s uses and limitations, drawbacks. She shared valuable insights with students on different aspects of mobile journalism to make craft compelling stories, what kinds of stories to create and how to make stories more attractive and engaging, so that the audience are eager to consume the contents produced.

Dr Sujit Tewari, principal of the college got connected with the gathering via a virtual meet congratulated the Department of Mass Communication for organising the event on such an important issue. “In today’s era, the influence and impact of technology is undeniable in every sphere of our life and journalism is no exception. We cannot think of life these days without mobile phones. We can make remarkable things using mobile phones and the students of journalism at the college who are future journalists will benefit from the lecture delivered by Ms Das who has already made an impact in the field of journalism with her insightful stories using mobile technology.”

 Earlier, Dr Santanu Das, vice principal of the college and coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college welcomed the invited speaker. Dr Santanu Das, in his speech, said that with the influence of technology in the ambit of journalism has also led to the issues of fake news to combat. He urged the students to make use of the mobile journalism is a positive way.

Faculty members of the college attended the event and congratulated the Department of Mass Communication for taking such an initiative.
