International Yoga day observed in Cachar
way2barak, June 24: Along with the rest of the nation, the 9th International Day of Yoga was observed in a befitting manner here on wednesday.
A programme was held on the occasion to observe the day at India Club Indoor Stadium, Silchar organised by District Administration Cachar in collaboration with District Health Society.
Minister for Excise,Fishery & Transport, Parimal Suklabaidya,Silchar MP ,Dr Rajdeep Roy, MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar , Rohan Kumar Jha, additional deputy commissioner, Yubaraj Borthakur, assistant commissioner,Jonali debi participated in the programme.
At the outset all the dignitaries present were felicitated with traditional gamocha followed by lightning of lamp by the dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said, “Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps in maintaining both physical and mental well being, and over the years, it has found popularity in other countries as well. In 2014 our Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed marking the day as the International Day of Yoga in his address at the UN General Assembly and the proposal was endorsed by 175 member nations following which the United Nations recognised June 21 as International Day of Yoga”.
He said over the past one and half years yoga has gained more importance as yoga is an old practice that combines physical postures, meditation, breathing exercises and ethical principles to promote the overall well being of people. accordingly the theme for this year’s yoga day is ” yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.
“It should be our moral duty to build an immune, healthier and stronger India by adopting yoga as an effective adjunct to prevent such pandemics. So, I urge everyone to adopt yoga as a lifestyle that is based on science of holistic living,” he added.
While emphasizing on the physical aspects of healthier living, minister Suklabaidya said, “People, and youths in particular must inculcate values to keep themselves fitter and healthier. A healthy lifestyle keeps illnesses at bay and here lies the habit of routine exercise and planned diet. Yoga is the great ingredient towards leading a healthy life”.
“Our youth needs to be aware of this and to maintain a healthy body and mind, they should develop a habit of exercising regularly,” Suklabadya quipped.
