If required, primary schools may be closed down, asserts Himanta Biswa Sarma
April 11: With the onset of the 2nd wave, the number of COVID-19 cases are increasing nationwide by leaps and bounds. Positive cases are also in the rise in Assam. On Saturday, 405 new positive cases, including 145 in Kamrup Metro, were detected in the State. 2 more deaths were also reported in the state. The active cases in the State have now reached 1,587.
It is in this backdrop that state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his early stand of not imposing lockdown again as it would cause great difficulties for the weaker section of the society. The minister asserted that the government was watching the developments and will adopt all necessary steps to keep the situation under control. When asked about closing down of educational institutes, the minister replied that keeping in mind the safety of the children, primary schools may be closed down, if required.
