HSLC: 74 Students Expelled, 2 invigilators show caused in Hailakandi

February 26: The ongoing High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) /Assam High Madrasa (AHM) examinations conducted by Board of Secondary Education (SEBA), Assam has witnessed mutiple incidents of malpractices in several districts of Assam. In Hailakandi district also, incidents of malpractices during the examinations were reported.

Inspector of schools of the Hailkandi, Rajiv Kumar Jha has informed that a total of 74 students were expelled till now. Out of the 74, 23 were expelled during Social Science exam followed by 19 in General Mathematics, 15 in English, 13 in General Science and 4 in Assamese. Interestingly, two invigilators were also issued show cause notice for negligence in performing their duties.

As regards security measures, Rajiv Kumar Jha informed that Section 144 was imposed within a 200 metre radius in all the 16 examination centres. Three flying squads have been formed together with a control room to keep a tab on the activities during the examinations and to initiate appropriate action. Further, 21 persons were engaged as supervising officers.

On the very first day of the HSLC/AHM examinations (Subject:English), as many as 15 candidates were expelled in Hailakandi district for adopting unfair means. The expelled candidates belong to Public HS School (5 students), Sanarei Mitei HS School (5 students), Algapur Public HS School (2 students), Janaki Charan HS School (1 student), Chalmars HS School (1 student) and Hailakandi Town High Madrassa (1 student).

In Assam, a total of 3,52, 143 candidates are appearing in the exam from different centres in Assam. For the first time, the bar code was introduced in the answer sheets. The students were allowed to use only black pens while writing their papers. Flying squads were deployed in the “sensitive” centres and CCTV cameras were also installed in all the centres. The HSLC examinations will conclude on March 6th, 2019 and is held in as many as 857 centres across the state.
