HS 1 year exam not held due to pandemic; Radhamadhab College returns back fees to students

Nov. 28: Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) was supposed to conduct the HS First Year Final Exam, 2020 in the month of April. But due to the pandemic situation followed by nationwide lockdown, the said examination was cancelled and all students were automatically promoted to HS 2nd Year. However, the students had already paid the examination fees of Rs.700 to their respective colleges much ahead of the outbreak of the pandemic in the month of December, 2019.

On Saturday, Radhamadhab College, Silchar returned the fees to the students after deducting the amount already spent. Out of the Rs.700 collected from each student of HS 1st year, Rs.200 per head was already given to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) as Exam Fees. An amount of Rs. 200×227 students (Rs. 45,4000) was deposited with AHSEC. Further, Rs.40 each student (Rs.9.080) was collected and spent during Saraswati Puja, 2020. Apart from this, Rs.10 per student was collected (Total Rs. 2270) price of Communal harmony badge. Another amount of Rs.4000 was spent for printing cover page of answer scripts and purchase of stationary items for conducting the exam.

Out of Rs.700 collected from each student, an amount of Rs.400 was earmarked as Centre Fees, out of which, Rs. 100 was already refunded to the students in the month of February- March. Apart from this, an amount of Rs.50 each was collected as Marksheet Fees.

Finally, after deduction, Rs.300 per student was refunded back on Saturday. Expressing his views, Dr. Debashish Roy, Principal of Radhamadhab College, Silchar said, “As the examination of HS 1st year was cancelled by AHSEC due to the pandemic so the money collected from the students was returned by us. We have deducted the amount already spent and returned the balance amount to the students.”

Earlier, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also gave a memorandum to the Principal of GC College, Cachar College, Women’s College and Radhamadhab College wherein they urged upon the college authority to return back the fees collected from the students of HS 1st year for their final exam, which was subsequently cancelled due to the pandemic.
