Himanta favours three children to every Hindu to counter Muslim growth in Assam

way2barak, Dec 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged Hindu families to move away from the single-child norm and consider having two or even three children, citing concerns over what he described as a demographic imbalance in the state.
Speaking to reporters on population trends, Himanta Biswa Sarma said changes were visible across constituencies, with population growth in some areas and decline in others.
“Yes, in some places the population has increased, while in others it has declined. We will get the exact figures once the final list is published,” he said.
However, the Chief Minister claimed that population growth was more pronounced in minority-dominated areas.
“In these areas, the rate of childbirth is very high, whereas among Hindus the birth rate is gradually decreasing. This difference is clearly visible,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said. He argued that such disparities required a rethinking of family planning norms to maintain what he called social balance.
“That is why I tell Hindus not to stop at one child. Hindu families should think of having at least two children, and even consider a third,” he said, adding that demographic stability was important for the long-term sustainability of families and society.
