213 persons test Covid-19 +ve in Cachar till 6 PM on Saturday; 1 dies at SMCH

Traces of community transmission found in certain parts of Silchar: Dist Media Expert

May 8:  A total of 213 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6 PM on Saturday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 2632 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, 198 persons were found positive, whereas 15 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Saturday evening.

Further, during the day, 246 air passengers arrived at Silchar Airport, who did Covid test at Tikal Model Hospital, wherein 02 of them were found positive. It needs mention here that on Friday, 198 persons were detected as Covid-19 positive in Cachar.

The death of Covid-19 positive patients is continuing in Cachar. On Saturday, the district witnessed another such death. A 60 year old male Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiyan from Panchayat Road in Silchar was suffering from cough and sob for last 4 days. He was also diabetic & hypertensive and was on medications when admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on 3 May.

Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiyan was diagnosed to be a case of Covid pneumonia. Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert informed that the patient presented with Sp o 2 of 63 % on oxygen was initially admitted in ward but later shifted to ICU.  He had to be put on Non invasive ventilator on being unable to maintain oxygen and had to be intubated today and put on mechanical ventilator. However, all efforts to save him failed and ultimately, he expired at 6.00 pm on 8 May.
