Govt of Assam to provide food items worth ₹2,000 to each poor families in containment zones

May 18: In order to mitigate the difficulties faced by the families and households in containment zones, the Government of Assam has decided to provide food items to poor or economically weak families in containment zones covering a period of 14 days.

Issuing an order to this effect on Monday, Joint Secretary to the Govt of Assam , Revenue and Disaster Management Department stated that 15 kgs of rice, 2 kgs of Dal, 2 lits of oil, 1 kg salt, 5 kgs of potato, 2 kgs of onion, vegetables, milk, egg etc. and any other essential items will be provided to the poor families in containment zones.

It further stated that Fund will be provided by Deputy Commissioner to the concerned Circle Officer/ Block Development Officer for procurement of food items at market rates, who will then hand over the food items to the local committees/ officials for handing over to the family. Deputy Commissioner may also allow the local committees/ officials to procure the food items etc, if deemed fit.
