Govt delegation led by Ashok Singhal vists Lailapur, assures people not to panic

July 21: Since last Monday, a tense atmosphere is prevailing at Lailapur in Assam- Mizoram border. Residents of the area are passing their days in great fear. In order to assure the people of Lailapur about their safety and security two cabinet ministers of Assam, Ashok Singhal and Parimal Suklabaidya went there on Thursday. They were accompanied by MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, MLA Kaushik Rai and Dipayan Chakraborty.

Addressing the residents near the Lailapur Police Out Post, Gaurdian Minister of Cachar Ashok Singhal said, “We are here to assure you that the state government is with you all. We urge upon you not to panic and give up fear from your minds.” Speaking about the violence inflicted by the Mizo’s on last Monday, the guardian minister said, “As the Mizo’s too are Indians, so Assam Police has not gone for retaliation against its own countrymen.” He, however, added that, if in the future, the Mizo’s launch any fresh attack, then this would not be tolerated by the Assam government. Mr Singhal further informed that additional forces has been deployed to guard the borders.
