GMCH closed for next few days after a PG student tests positive, 386 quarantined in this connection
May 8: A PG student at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) has tested COVID positive on Thursday night. He was in-charge of screening of patients for COVID-19 at GMCH. Sharing this information, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Consequently we have to screen everyone who came in contact with him and sanitize the entire GMCH premises. As such we have to close the hospital for new patients for next few days.” The 1st & 5th hostel of GMCH was declared as a containment zone. A total of 386 persons were quarantined after contact tracing of this PG student.

In another tweet, the minister wrote, “Although we are closing the hospital (GMCH) for new patients, special arrangements will be in place for patient already admitted and collection of new swab samples. Soliciting cooperation and understanding from all, in the interest of public safety.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma also met the residents of PG Boys Hostel of GMCH and advised all to take all possible precautions.
