Four police officers arrested in Tripura Phensedyl case

way2barak, May 25: In a major development, four police personnel posted in Khowai district of Tripura have been arrested and placed under suspension following allegations of serious procedural lapses and malpractices linked to an NDPS case registered at Teliamura Police Station.
The arrested officers have been identified as Inspector Ajit Debbarma, the second officer-in-charge (Second OC) of Teliamura police station; Sub-Inspector (SI) Rajendra Reang; Woman Sub-Inspector (SI) Sampa Das; and ASI Sachindra Debbarma, In-Charge of the Special Branch’s Teliamura Unit.
According to official sources, the Superintendent of Police, Khowai District Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy, IPS ordered a discreet enquiry on May 22, 2026 after receiving information regarding alleged irregularities in connection with Teliamura PS Case No. 2026/TLM/023, registered under Sections 21(C), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act.
During the enquiry, investigators reportedly found significant discrepancies in the handling of seized narcotic-related materials. It was observed that more than 200 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup, allegedly connected with the case, were unaccounted for.
Taking serious note of the matter, authorities subsequently registered a specific case at Teliamura Police Station under relevant legal provisions. The investigation has now been handed over to the Tripura Police Crime Branch for a detailed and impartial probe.
Officials confirmed that all four police personnel suspected to be involved in the incident have been arrested. Simultaneously, they have also been placed under suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
Both departmental proceedings and legal action have already been initiated against the accused personnel. Police authorities stated that the matter is under active investigation and further details are expected to emerge following the Crime Branch inquiry.
The incident has triggered concern over the handling of narcotics-related cases and evidence management within the police system, particularly in sensitive NDPS investigations. Senior officials have assured strict action against anyone found guilty.
