Workshop entitled ‘Gandhian Approach to Rural Development’ organised by NSS cell of Assam University
February 12: Gandhian approach to rural development strives to reconstruct village republics which would be non-violent, self- governed and self-sufficient so far as the basic necessities of rural society is concerned. Apart from creating a new socio-economic order, it endeavors to transform man; otherwise the changes in the socio-economic order will be short-lived. These were the words spoken by Prof. M. Gangabushan, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Coordinator during a one-day workshop held in the University on Tuesday.
The one-day workshop entitled, “Gandhian Approach to Rural Development” was organised for the NSS Programme Officers and volunteers. It was held in the Premendra Mohan Goswami (PMG) hall of Assam University, Silchar.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. M. Gangabushan, the NSS Coordinator expressed that the main motto of the Workshop is to sensitise the NSS Programme Officers and volunteers to work for the rural development on the basis of the ideology of M.K. Gandhi, the father of nation.
In the workshop, Prof. S.P. Singh Chouhan, Department of Hindi of Assam University and Prof. Kanagaraj Eswaran, Department of Social Work, Mizoram University spoke in details about the issues and challenges related to ushering in rural development based on Gandhian ideology.
Apart from them, Prof. Albin Joshep, Dr. Mritunjoy Kumar, Prof. Natarajan of the Department of Philosophy and Prosenjit Roy Choudhury of Sanskar Bharti also spoke during the occasion.
Speaking to way2barak, one of the Programme Officer Shyam Mahmud Barbhuiya of Jagannath Singh College, Udharbond expressed satisfaction in the manner the said workshop was conducted. He said, “Such type of workshops will definitely infuse a new lease of life in the functioning of the NSS.”
