Former Assam CM Anwara Taimur passes away
Sept. 28: The lone woman Chief Minister of Assam, Syeda Anwara Taimur breathed her last on Monday. She was residing in Australia with her son since a long period of time. Anwara Taimur was the Chief Minister of Assam from 6 December, 1980 to 30 June, 1981. A leader of the Indian National Congress, Taimur was elected to the Assam Assembly (MLA) in 1972, 1978, 1983, and 1991. She also served as the state PWD Minister from 1983 to 1985. Her death was mourned by many in the state.
