Following resignation of Sushmita Dev Silchar Dist Congress convenes emergent meeting on Tuesday

Aug 16: Congress as a political party has almost lost its relevance in the present political scenario. It’s top leaders have been leaving the party and joining the BJP one after another. All those who have till now left the party has held the central leadership responsible for showing any leadership charisma. The latest to add to this list is former MP of Silchar and President of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev. Though Sushmita in her resignation letter has expressed her gratitude to party President Sonai Gandhi, yet she parted ways from the party which nurtured her since last two decades.

On Sunday, she sent her resignation to Party President Sonai Gandhi. However, though she gave divorce to Congress, yet she was not leaving politics. This was mentioned by Sushmita herself in her resignation letter, where she wrote, “I hope I have your good wishes as I begin a new chapter in my life of public service.” Now, this has given birth to various speculations in the political circles.

Meanwhile, on Monday after the news of her resignation took the media by a storm, Rahul Alam Laskar, General Secretary (Admn) of Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC) issued a notice wherein it was stated that an emergent meeting of Silchar DCC will be held at 12.30 PM on 17 August at Indira Bhawan, which will also be attended by Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Working President of APCC. All MLA’s, Ex-MLA’s, Ex-MP’s, all office bearers of Silchar DCC, President and General Secretary of Block Congress Committees, all heads of frontal wings/ cells/ departments were asked to be present in the meeting.

Though the notice of emergent meeting of Silchar DCC has got no mention of the issue of resignation of Sushmita Dev, yet sources within the party hinted that the void created due to her resignation would in all probability be the central theme of the meeting. It will therefore be an interesting aspect to note whom the Silchar DCC selects to lead the party from the front.
