Fishery project under Shyama Prasad Mukherjee RURBAN mission inaugurated in Katigorah

Sept. 25: Cachar Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli formally inaugurated Fishery project under Shyama Prasad Mukherjee RURBAN Mission 2020-2021 and ceremonially distributed free fish seeds and fish feeds to the small and marginal fish farmers of Gumra and Paikan Digarkhal GPs here in Katigorah on Friday.

On this occasion a meeting was held at the Gumra Public M.E School Auditorium, which was jointly organised by Zilla Parishad, Cachar and District Fisheries Development Department. The meeting was presided over by Kartik Tati ,Block President of Kalain.

Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, “Fish Seeds and fish feeds were distributed free of cost under the Rurban Mission for the development of small scale fish farmers in rural areas so that everyone could become self-reliant in fish farming. If small fish farmers in remote areas could meet the demand for fish by cultivating fish in their own ponds, there would be socio-economic development and there would be no need to bring imported fish from South Indian states. I hope that every beneficiary will be financially self-sufficient under this project.”

Lovely Chakraborty, vice-chairman of Cachar Zilla Parishad, said that when she was the chairperson of Mahadevpur GP, an expert team from Delhi came and conducted a survey for Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission in Mahadevpur, Gumrah and Paikan Digarkhal GPs in West Katigorah. At that time, the panchayat representatives had several discussions with the party about Rurban. She further stated that she was lucky to have Rurban’s work on only these three GPs in the entire Cachar during her tenure. Lovely said that small fish farmers of Mahadevpur GP will also be brought under this project in future.

In his address, Eldad Lalthakum Faihriem, CEO of Cachar Zilla Parishad said, “All the government projects are allocated for the people, but one class of brokers often try to negotiate with project shots. From now onwards, these issues will be dealt with tough hands.”

MLA, Katigorah, Khaliluddin Majumder said the area would also develop if the poor people are benefited from the activities of the Rurban Mission. District Fisheries Development Officer, Rafiqul Haque explained in detail how to raise fish seeds distributed free of cost under the RURBAN Project. Kalain block President Kartik Tati in his brief speech drew the attention of the Deputy Commissioner Cachar for the development of Gumrah GP office including immediate eradication of unhealthy environment in Gumrah market. Shailesh Singh, Assistant Engineer, Zilla Parishad Cachar also spoke on the occasion.

During the day, fish seed and fish meal were officially distributed among 35 fish farmers of Gumrah and Paikan.
A total of 137 beneficiaries in two GPs have come under this scheme. It is pertinent to mention that a total 1.48 lakh fish seeds and 111 MT fish feeds will be distributed in phase manner by complying Covid protocol.

Among others present at the meeting were Gumra and Paikan GP presidents Asit Das and Chhaya Vaishnav, BDO,Kalain, Biplob Sharma Bardoloi, Gumra GP secretary Sabinoy Dev, Kalachand Vaishnav.
