Elections to 80 Municipal Boards of Assam to be held on 6 March, results on 9 March
Election to the Silchar Municipal Board will not be held as of now
Feb. 9: State Election Commission has announced the schedule for elections to 80 Municipal Boards of Assam today. Elections will be held on 6 March, 2022 and results will be declared on 9 March, 2022. This was stated by Assam State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar during a press conference held on Wednesday. He further stated that it is for the first time in the history of Assam that M2 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used during the Municipal elections. However, election to the Silchar Municipal Board will not be held as of now.
The State Election Commission further informed that the last date for filing of nominations by the candidates is 15 February. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on 17 February and the last date for withdraw of nominations has been fixed on 20 February. All the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect from the date of issue of the notification (9 February, 2022).

There will be a total of 977 posts for which elections will be held in 80 Municipal Boards of the state. The elections on 6 March will take place in 2,054 booths, which will involve around 25,000 government employees. Further, additional police forces will also be deputed for this purpose. Keeping in mind the Covid-19 situation in the state, the EC has banned all kinds of road shows and election rallies this time. Candidates are only allowed to conduct door-to-door campaigning. A maximum of 15 persons can take part in the election campaigning.
